The Mahfood Group Project Summaries

Below are just a few examples of our diverse experience.

Utility Corridor Risk Assessment

Closure activities are being completed for a former manufactured gas plant (MGP) site located in northcentral Pennsylvania under the PA Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act (Act 2). A unique aspect of this MGP site is that the historic MGP structures not only were on the on-site property, but also extended across the adjacent street and onto the opposing property owned by a separate entity. Investigative activities that were conducted within the adjacent street and opposing property verified the presence of MGP-residual material from the historic MGP structures. A major piece of the risk assessment for this site included the evaluation of the utility corridor within the adjacent street. more...

PCB Gate/Compressor Station Sampling

An annual sampling program is implemented to evaluate the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) that may have been introduced into the gas distribution pipeline system from upstream gas suppliers. The sampling program spans across Pennsylvania. more...

Third Party Review of West Virginia Baseline Risk Assessments

Numerous third party reviews of baseline human health and ecological risk assessments have been conducted for the state of West Virginia (WV) under the Voluntary Remediation and Redevelopment Program (VRRP). more...

Statistical Analysis

An ongoing statistical analysis is performed quarterly for a wood treatment site in West Virginia in accordance with USEPAís Statistical Analysis of Groundwater Monitoring Data at RCRA Facilities Unified Guidance. Utility Right of Way Risk Assessment

A risk assessment was performed on a former underground storage tank (UST) site under the Pennsylvania Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act (Act 32). The site had been utilized as an automobile service garage and retail gasoline fueling facility from the 1920s to the present. The risk assessment evaluated on-site impacts for both current and future use (i.e. potential residential use) and off-site impacts in various right-of-ways (ROW) near the site, including the ROW adjacent to the on-site property. This summary focuses on the ROW analysis adjacent to the site. more...

Property Redevelopment Risk Assessment

A quantitative risk assessment for a multi-phase property redevelopment. Historic events at the site caused the soil and groundwater on-site to be impacted by chlorinated compounds, including trichloroethene (TCE) which is carcinogenic by a mutagenic mode of action. more...

WVDEP Risk Assessment

A risk assessment was completed under West Virginia DEPís Voluntary Remediation Program for a former underground storage tank (UST) site that was converted into a residential property. more...

Risk Assessment for Active UST Site

A risk assessment for an active UST site (gas station) was completed in northcentral Pennsylvania. There was a release upgradient of the site and a release on-site. It was believed that impacts from the upgradient release may have migrated on to the northern portion of the property. The on-site release occurred in the center of the property and migrated downgradient towards the south. more...
